The new Green Pajamas album Green Pajamas Country is out to press and scheduled for an August 2 release!

Tom sez:
Jeff Kelly and the Green Pajamas are usually associated with psychedelic rock, largely because of their paisley-guitar beginnings. So why Country? Why now? Jeff has always had a dalliance with country in his heart and in his music. Some of the songs on this CD date back as far as 1986 to his earliest home-recorded releases on Green Monkey Records, though these are brand new recordings. While most songs are new, they reflect an old-school country sensibility; they would be more at home with Hank and Johnny Cash than much of what you hear on the country charts of today. Father Father Do You Wait recalls the country songs Jeff played with his dad, while the haunting When Good Men Go Bad stands with Kelly’s best.
Jeff and bass player Joe Ross have toyed with the idea of this album for ten years. It needed to age. In the last two it finally took shape. It was worth the wait. This is not a gimmick. It is not a marketing ploy. It is just plain good music played from the heart. From its sly opening tribute to the classic westerns to the mournful close, Green Pajama Country is a Classic.

In this month’s AotM Howie talks about recording the then Heaters 1979 Thanksgiving Show, which Howie has long held up as their best live recording. All the band members have agreed to make the show available for download and we will have it up and available for you in the next couple days. All proceeds from the album will go to the Ronald McDonald house.
Pretty cool.

We just sent Green Pajamas Country out to manufacture last night and will firming up a release date shortly. As a long time lover of the work of Mr. Kelly, take it from me – this is very, very good. I am fully confident it will not be ready by July 1 and have decided to give you all a most fascinating slab of GMR history for July - Joe Leonard’s Rock Opera Breath. A little odd? Why yes it is. More to follow!

Well, most of you won’t be able to tell or care, but we just switched our home page over to WordPress, which will give us more interactivity and functionality. A couple immediate things different – you can can like us on facebook from here, do the twitter gizmo, do an RSS feed, read our latest Tweets (rare so far). Howie and I have a review section now where we will vend (vent?) our views on the rest of the world’s new releases (or maybe old). I’ll get a little content in there over the weekend. Thanks to Mike Turpin for getting this set up for us!
